Summer Vacation

Chris, Jack and I enjoyed a very relaxing week in Coronado, Ca in July, with my parents.

(It was the first week-long vacation I've taken in years- so it was a real treat).
This was also our first real vacation with Jack (not including the occasional long weekends up to Northern Arizona).

We stayed at the Historic Hotel del Coronado.
This was the view from our Hotel Room. (it was still early at the time I took this pic- but you get the idea of where the water was).

and this was Jack's Room.

We were so grateful for the fact that there was a walk-in closet. We were able to fit the pack-and-play inside- and close the door when it came to nap/bedtime.
I was a little afraid the maids would call CPS on me... but it worked out great!

Jack made himself at home right away.
We walked up to the grocery store a few times during the week to stock up on breakfast must haves, and sandwich fix-ins for the beach.

Then it was beach time!
This was camp!
We looked silly- but we had lots of shade!

Papa escorted Jack to the beach for the first time.
The boys were off....

Jack loved the beach, the sand, and the independence of being able to stand-up and play in the water all by himself.

This is what I call "Beach Day Care"
I found a hole in the sand (courtesy of a previous beach goer) and stuck Jack in it.
He loved it... so I continued to pile sand on him. He would have sat there all day had I let him.
Later in the week, Chris hopped on a plane to be with his little man.
Jack loved playing with his Dad on the beach.
(and yes- Jack managed to forget about the hat- and throughout the trip left it on)!
We really enjoyed the leisure week.
We ate out, took lots of walk, and watched Sunsets.
Even Jack got good at watching the Sun go Down.
But don't forget- he's 15 Months old- so he still likes to get into some trouble
One of the highlights of the trip was taking a drive up to Del Mar to visit the Horse Track.
We had a blast.
We were there on the 2nd Day of the Season (much less crowded).
We let the Dads hang out and study the races- while Mom and I walked Jack all around the facility. (We even found a playground in the center field).

Jack loved watching the horses- and all noises!

One of our last treats of the week was renting a surrey.
We pedaled up and down the boardwalk, and around the nearby neighborhoods.

It was a hoot.
Imagine being a passerby and all you see is a toddler strapped in the front seat wearing a huge helmet and a smile to match.
(I was a little disappointed by the end of the ride because Chris informed me I really had nothing to do with the steering. I guess Chris secretly got a kick out of watching me think I was really helping).

We had our moments of fun vacation laughs. Like the time Jack found his dad's headphones- and thought he was a big boy.
Jack started to talk a lot more during this trip. Mostly because he was around so many people all day long. He eventually mimicked mom calling on dad... and decided to refer to Dad as "David" for most of the trip.
All in all- we had a wonderful time.
Thank you Papa and Lou Lou for a wonderful vacation.

  1. Looks like a great vacation! I will have to remember the "baby daycare" trick for Labor Day when we head to Coronado... maybe that will work on Jake! :o)
